SURVICE and Automated Dynamics Join Forces to Provide Advanced Composites

Montreal, Canada – On May 22, 2014, during the 70th Annual Forum of the American Helicopter Society (AHS) International, SURVICE and New York-based Automated Dynamics announced the recent formation of a strategic partnership that will enable the companies to provide customers with comprehensive composite solutions. Under this new partnership, SURVICE’s 30 years of experience in engineering analysis, simulation, testing, and metrology will be complemented by Automated Dynamics’ 30 years of experience in composite automation and composite structure production.  The result will be the ability to provide Defense and industry customers with end-to-end composite solution support, from initial concept through serial production.

“I am excited about this new partnership,” said  SURVICE CEO Jeff Foulk,” and I look forward to working together to provide advanced composites for the warfighter and others.”

The SURVICE-Automated Dynamics partnership has already proven to be a good match.  The two companies recently supported a NAVAIR program to improve the survivability of rotorcraft driveshafts.  SURVICE used its extensive background in survivability to design and analyze the composite driveshafts.  Automated Dynamics then fabricated the driveshafts with its in-situ thermoplastic composite automated fiber placement equipment.  Finally, SURVICE performed ballistic and nondestructive testing to verify the results.  The outcome was a driveshaft with a 35% weight savings and 150% greater survivability over the legacy design.
