Representatives from SURVICE’s Applied Technology and Washington Area Operations drew quite a bit of attention with their scale-model Hoverbike display at this year’s Modern Day Marine Exposition, held 22–24 September in Quantico, VA. The display highlighted SURVICE’s current work with UK-based Malloy Aeronautics to develop a state-of-the-art Hoverbike that can carry more than 800 lbs and travel up to 50 mph. Other unique features of the vehicle include its overlapping rotors on each end of the bike, which provide ample space for an operator and the capability to function even when one rotor has been disabled, and its ability to run continuously for more than 3 hrs.
Modern Day Marine is an annual expo, co-sponsored and hosted by Marine Corps Base Quantico, that showcases progressive technology that will ultimately be vital to the warfighter of tomorrow.
